You Are Not Defined by What Happened to You
Person-Centred Counselling for Trauma Recovery
Trauma can take many forms. It may come from a single life-altering event or from a series of difficult, ongoing experiences over time. Sometimes, it’s clear where the pain began — other times, it’s more complicated, harder to name, or deeply buried.
You might be feeling anxious, shut down, constantly on edge, or overwhelmed by memories or emotions that don’t seem to fit the present moment. These responses are not signs of weakness — they’re your nervous system’s way of trying to protect you.
Whatever your experience, your pain is valid — and worthy of care.
A Gentle, Person-Centred Approach
My approach to trauma counselling is person-centred, integrative, and grounded in safety and respect. I understand that trauma can make it hard to trust, to feel safe, or to speak freely — especially about what’s most painful.
You are in control of what we explore, when, and how.
There is no pressure to tell your story all at once — or at all. You will not be pushed to revisit memories before you’re ready. Instead, we’ll work together to understand how the past may be affecting you now and find ways to support healing and reconnection — at a pace that feels right for you.
The focus is not on reliving the trauma, but on gently understanding its impact, supporting your wellbeing, and helping you move forward with strength and self-compassion.
Support for a Range of Experiences
Trauma can arise in many different forms. I offer support for:
Childhood trauma or neglect
Emotional, physical, or domestic abuse
Medical trauma or difficult health experiences
Accidents or sudden life-threatening events
Grief, loss, or major life changes
Developmental or attachment-based trauma
Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD) — including flashbacks, hypervigilance, emotional numbness, dissociation, or disrupted sleep
You do not need a formal diagnosis or label to begin. Your experience matters — and how it lives in your body, emotions, and relationships today is enough reason to seek support.
What Trauma Counselling Can Offer
Everyone’s healing journey looks different. There is no fixed path and no timeline. My role is to walk alongside you — offering steadiness, empathy, and encouragement while you navigate your own way forward.
In counselling, we may work to:
Understand how trauma is affecting your daily life and relationships
Recognise and respond to triggers with more awareness and self-kindness
Reconnect with your body and sense of self in safe and manageable ways
Make space for grief, anger, fear, or confusion — without judgment
Strengthen your inner resources and build emotional safety
Restore a sense of trust, autonomy, and possibility
This work can feel vulnerable, and that’s why the pace is always set by you.
Working Together
You don’t need to have all the words to begin. You’re welcome to come exactly as you are — with confusion, silence, overwhelm, or uncertainty.
Sometimes, simply being in a space where you feel safe and seen is the beginning of healing.
My intention is to offer a therapeutic relationship that feels steady, respectful, and empowering — where you are not reduced to what happened to you, but seen as the whole person you are.

“Trauma reshapes how the mind and brain process experience — changing not only what we think, but our very capacity to think and feel safely. Being able to feel safe with other people is perhaps the most important foundation for mental health; safe, trusting connections are essential for healing and living a meaningful life.”
